Thursday May 07, 2020
Thursday May 07, 2020
If you’re a parent, then you already know parenting isn’t always easy, and parenting in the time of COVID-19 is something altogether different.
Our kids want to go to school. They want to play with their friends and have birthday parties and sleepovers, and go places. And they can’t do any of that right now.
Not only that, but for those 8 to 10 hours they were at school every day, they’re now at home. And you’re home with them trying to manage everything.
It can be a lot to handle, and it’s why I invited Dr. Deborah Tillman, host of America’s Supernanny and author of Parenting on Purpose, to give us parents some actionable steps we can take to be better, especially in the wake of this pandemic.
Join us as Dr. Deborah breaks down the reasons why parents need to encourage, connect and respond to their kids. As she says, “It’s important to give children the space they need to communicate what’s wrong and not be judged on or criticized for what they say.”
This episode is brought to you by Purpose 2 Platform, a 20-week business accelerator and mentorship program that will get you clear on HOW to package your PURPOSE, communicate your PROMISE to your ideal audience, choose the best PLATFORM for your personality and lifestyle and create a PREMIUM offer.
Through this program, you’ll receive accountability and support in a dynamic community designed so you can finally make progress and be ready before you even need to pull that trigger on what’s no longer serving you.

Herdyne Mercier: Stop Policing Grief
Thursday Apr 30, 2020
Thursday Apr 30, 2020
Does grief always have to be reserved for the loss of a loved one, friend or pet? Can you experience grief with any loss like the loss of a job, loss of normalcy or loss of your finances?
According to Herdyne Mercier, Chief Grief Crusader and host of the Redefining Grief podcast, grief is a natural response to any loss and you have the right to grieve anything you want.
In the midst of this global pandemic, it’s normal to experience grief and not even realize that’s what you’re experiencing. You might be grieving the loss of your job, the loss of your income or the loss of being around friends or visiting your parents, and that’s normal and okay.
In today’s episode, Herdyne walks us through the anchors of grief and goes deeper into explaining why grief is normal and natural and how embracing grief and our grieving process is one of the best steps we can take for our future.
This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW.

Stop Policing Grief Takeaways
It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. – Ecclesiastes 7:2
We should give people the dignity of their own grief process. – Patrice Washington
Grief has no timeframe. – Herdyne Mercier
Stop policing my grief because none of us are immune to heartache. – Herdyne Mercier
The ability to tell the truth about your heartache is freedom. – Herdyne Mercier
When you connect with someone who sees you, hears you and validates your feelings – that’s power. – Herdyne Mercier
I know what darkness is and I’m not going back so I have no choice but to anchor in my faith. – Herdyne Mercier
I want to die empty and die knowing I gave it my all. – Patrice Washington
As we’re all navigating life differently now, a lot of us are probably grieving our schedules, our titles, our routines, our income, etc. – and that’s okay. Grieve what you need to grieve, but also know that this time can produce a new normal that’s more glorious than how things were before.
Let us know what you’re grieving about and how you’re processing that grief in the comments below.

T-Kea Blackman: Success Doesn’t Make You Exempt
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
With everything going on in the world right now it’s understandable that people are worried and scared. We’re in a time where our normalcy has been stripped from us and it doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor or black or white. COVID-19 is no respecter of person.
Some communities are obviously more impacted by this virus than others, but we’ve seen both celebrities and everyday people stricken by it, and we know no one is exempt.
Not only is the virus detrimental to some, it’s having a catastrophic effect on our mental, physical and spiritual health. There are so many people out there who are suffering and afraid to speak up.
That’s why this rewind episode with T-Kea Blackman, author of Saved & Depressed: A Suicide Survivor’s Journey of Mental Health, Healing & Faith and owner of Fireflies Unite, a mental health media and communications company, is so important.
Join us as T-Kea and I go deep into the topic of mental health. We cover everything from T-Kea’s own struggle with depression and her attempted suicide to society’s understanding of mental health.
This episode is brought to you by the Wellness Recovery Action Plan – a 4-week online self-designed prevention and wellness training that anyone can use to get well and stay well, so they can create the life they desire.
Hosted by T-Kea Blackman, this training is for you if you’re battling burn-out, struggling with making self-care a priority, especially in a season like this, and unclear about how to detect the early warning signs of deteriorating mental health.
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan is an evidence-based practice and was initially used by health care and mental health systems all over the world to address all kinds of physical, mental health and life issues.
To find out more and claim your seat, visit firefliesunite.com/wrap.
Success Doesn’t Make You Exempt Takeaways
I didn’t realize my desire to end my life could be linked to depression and mental health. – T-Kea Blackman
We all have mental health. The problem is a lot of people use “mental health” and “mental illness” interchangeably and distort what each means. – T-Kea Blackman
People assume if they have mental health – good or bad – that they have issues, but that’s not true. – T-Kea Blackman
Depression is not a synonym for sadness. – T-Kea Blackman
When people use depression and sadness interchangeably, it minimizes the severity of depression and can cause more damage. – T-Kea Blackman
Sadness tends to fade away once a situation gets better, but with depression, there’s a lingering sadness that actually never leaves. – T-Kea Blackman
If we understand that depression is truly a disability, we can have a greater level of compassion for those suffering from it. – Patrice Washington
You can’t always see someone’s mental health just by looking at them. In fact, oftentimes, it’s the high-achieving, high-functioning people who have poor mental health or are struggling with a mental illness. That’s why we need to always show compassion for those struggling and really offer support instead of judgement.
Now, let us support you. How has COVID-19 affected your work, relationships, family, etc.? How has it affected you mentally, physically and spiritually? Are you struggling with or ashamed by what you’re feeling in the wake of this pandemic?

Varian Brandon: Committed to Truth
Thursday Apr 09, 2020
Thursday Apr 09, 2020
When it comes to getting clear and committing to your truth, what do you think is involved? And if you’ve spent your whole life pleasing others and doing what you think they’d want you to do instead of what your truth tells you to do, then how do you change?
According to Varian Brandon, a transformational business and leadership coach and an expert in helping her clients stand boldly in the truth of who they are, you’ve first got to tell yourself the truth.
For Varian, the equation of power is Truth2 + Voice = Power. Truth2 means truth to yourself first, then truth to others. For many of us, we won’t even tell the truth to ourselves, which makes it impossible to tell the truth to others.
In today’s episode, Varian and I unpack this idea of Truth2 and get into how she became committed to truth. Join us as we cover everything from Princess Diana to setting personal boundaries.
This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW.
Committed to Truth Takeaways
Unprocessed pain always becomes a part of your personality. – Varian Brandon
We don’t know people. We think we know people by what they look like, what they do and where they come from, but we don’t know people at all. – Varian Brandon
You have a choice not to like me and it doesn’t mean I’m bad. It just means that you’re exercising your choice. – Varian Brandon
I’m not a selfish person, but I am a self-first person. – Varian Brandon
I’m not attached to money and because I’m not, it has no leverage. – Varian Brandon
Truth is about awareness – you don’t automatically have to go to judgment. – Varian Brandon
Tell the truth to yourself knowing that then you get to decide what you want to do with that truth – if anything. – Varian Brandon
The most powerful thing you can do is look at your own truth and not turn away. – Varian Brandon
Truth is about awareness, not judgement. Given that statement, can you appreciate your truth more? Does it change what you tell yourself? Oftentimes, we tell the truth and then go immediately into judging whether it’s good or bad.
What if you suspended that judgement? How would that change your truth? Let us know in the comments below.

Allie Casazza: Simplicity is Relative
Thursday Apr 02, 2020
Thursday Apr 02, 2020
When it comes to decluttering your home or office, it’s probably a chore you don’t get too excited about. Especially with all the emotions that can come up as you’re going through and purging things.
I get it, believe me. But I also get that the people who are most successful, don’t live in clutter – they can’t because they wouldn’t be able to function at their highest level if they did.
To help tackle this topic, I’ve invited Allie Casazza – founder of The Life Minimalist and host of The Purpose Show – to discuss what it means to live a minimalist life, and how decluttering your space can not only reduce stress, but can make you more successful in life and business.
This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW.
Begin an Uncluttered Journey Takeaways
Living a minimalist life is about having less so I can focus on living my life instead of cleaning up after it. – Allie Casazza
In my business, I don’t have to know how to do all the things, but I have to know all the things that are being done. – Patrice Washington
Less time is not always the way to simplify in your business. – Allie Casazza
There is something deeply therapeutic about getting a closet cleaned out. – Allie Casazza
How we treat our space teaches other people how to treat us. – Patrice Washington
If I take myself back down to the level of status quo, there are people out there who will not be reached because I retreated. – Allie Casazza
I learned how to be a rich person. – Allie Casazza
Where are you when it comes to clutter? Are you someone who keeps stacks of anything and everything around or are you like Allie and purposeful in what you keep? Has decluttering made you more successful in life and business? We’d love to know.

It’s Simpler Than You Think
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
What would happen if you gave yourself the chance to approach your finances from a more simplistic place?
This episode is sponsored by the Simplifi by Quicken App at simplifimoney.com, but all thoughts and opinions are of course, my own.
I don’t know about you, but in the past I’ve been one of those people who would overcomplicate things. Fortunately, in 2018, my theme for the year was simplicity. As I practiced that, I gave myself permission to approach life from a more simplistic mindset and it’s now become a part of how I live.
So any time I find a new way to make my life easier, especially when it comes to managing my finances, I want to share it with you with the hopes that it will make your life easier, too.
And today, I’m sharing one of the tools I use on a daily basis to streamline my money and finances and keep everything in one place.
Simplifi by Quicken is designed to help you tackle your money goals. Their app features things from monthly watchlists, so you know when you’re getting close to overspending, to savings and debt trackers that are designed to help you figure out how long it will take to save for X or pay off a credit card.
It’s Simpler Than You Think Takeaways
Compulsive spending is an unhealthy obsession with spending money to the point where it interferes with your daily life. – Patrice Washington
When you’re a compulsive spender, you find ways to keep needing to shop, even though you don’t need what you’re buying. – Patrice Washington
It’s not so much the item you’re buying; it’s the high you get from going to buy that item or from swiping your credit card. – Patrice Washington
If you’re a compulsive spender, use Simplifi to set monthly watchlists. – Patrice Washington
The word BUDGET carries a lot of baggage with it, but remember, a budget is literally only numbers on a sheet that are there to guide you. – Patrice Washington
Stop thinking about a budget in terms of what you can’t do and start thinking about it as a guide for what you can do. – Patrice Washington
When you have savings goals or you want to pay down debt, you have to be willing to sacrifice something for a season. – Patrice Washington
Whatever goal you’re working toward, make it specific, set a target date and use something like Simplifi to track your progress. – Patrice Washington
Have you tried Simplifi by Quicken app yet? What are some of your favorite features? What do you think they could they improve or add to the app? I’d love to know. And if you haven’t tried the app yet, what’s stopping you?

Thursday Mar 12, 2020
This month I turn 39, and as I walk into this last year of my 30s, I want to recap some of the top lessons I’ve learned over the past year. For me, life isn’t about just checking things off, it’s about making sure I look at how I’ve grown from the things I’ve done.
So in this episode, I’m going to reflect and share my biggest takeaways with you in the hopes we can grow together and you can offer your voice, insights and feedback, as well. So please feel free to comment and give the podcast a rate and review — that would be the best birthday gift you could give me.
And without further ado, let’s jump in and discuss the five biggest lessons I’ve learned over the last year.
This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW.

Dr. Shanté Holley: The Cost of Disobedience
Thursday Mar 05, 2020
Thursday Mar 05, 2020
Tell me if this sounds familiar: You grind and hustle, exhausting yourself every week. And then you end up further away from the thing God has called you to do. For many people, this is their reality, and it’s one that I’ve lived for too long
That’s why, for me, this year is all about obedience. Thus far, I’ve realized that when I’m disobedient to God’s word, everything goes out of whack. In other words, everything becomes a struggle, and I end up exhausted and burnt out.
In today’s episode, Dr. Shanté Holley, host of the Believe Bigger podcast, zeros in on the idea of disobedience and explains how God is the king of brand affiliation. We also talk about how being obedient doesn’t mean being perfect and how it’s more about committing your heart to follow what God has said to do.
Join us as we go deeper into this discussion, while we look at some examples of disobedience and learn how to shift into obedience.
Today’s episode is brought to you by Command the Stage, a 2-day intimate training created for the next generation of transformational speakers who desire to confidently communicate the message they’ve been called to share with the masses.
How would you like to captivate your audience, attract your tribe, build authority and use speaking from the stage to grow your platform exponentially by becoming more magnetic, more memorable and more powerful? Get more details at patricewashington.com/stage.
The Cost of Disobedience Takeaways
Obedience is not about perfection, it’s about being committed in your heart to doing what God has said to do. – Dr. Shanté Holley
We go clamoring to God when we’re in trouble, so when we’ve had a progression of successes it can be easy to drift away from His word. – Dr. Shanté Holley
God is the king of brand affiliation. He can’t be affiliated with you when you’re out there doing x, y and z while He’s told you to do a, b and c. – Dr. Shanté Holley
I’m not willing to sacrifice God’s best to be buddy-buddy with people anymore. – Patrice Washington
When you’re in alignment with what God has for you, you don’t have to hustle and grind, you attract and manifest instead. – Dr. Shanté Holley
God is not a bully. He’s content to let you go your own way. – Dr. Shanté Holley
One of the greatest expressions of self-love is to love God. – Dr. Shanté Holley
When you’re in alignment with what God has for you, you don’t have to hustle and grind. With that said, I challenge you to be honest with yourself and determine if you’re operating from a place of obedience or disobedience. Share what comes up for you in the comments below.
