You are a Purpose Chaser… but you might also be a Purpose Chaser with a busy brain! Today's episode is all about understanding and tackling burnout, stress, and the infamous "busy brain," and I've brought in my amazing real-life friend, the incredible Dr. Romie, to guide us through it all. Dr. Romie Mushtaq is a board-certified physician, award-winning wellness speaker, and the founder of brainSHIFT. She brings together over 20 years of authority in neurology, integrative medicine, and mindfulness to deliver programs and create cultural change. In her recent book, The Busy Brain Cure, she unpacks the concept of stress and why wearing it as a badge of honor might not be serving us. We explore the symptoms of a busy brain, like ADHD and anxiety, and Dr. Romie provides insights into adult onset ADHD, a topic not widely understood until recent years. Plus, she introduces the SHIFT acronym, breaking down the crucial elements – Sleep, Hormones, Inflammation, Food, and Technology – that play a pivotal role in calming our busy brains. Join us as we navigate through nightly rituals, the impact of technology on our attention, and powerful reminders for your well-being and mindfulness.Show Notes:[2:40] - Declare with authority, “My mind is at peace.”[5:39] - Patrice and Dr. Romie discuss an incredible full circle moment that began all the way back in 2017.[7:46] - Listen to an excerpt from Dr. Romie’s recent book, The Busy Brain Cure, about wearing stress as a badge of honor.[9:44] - Stress is what is happening on the outside of our lives, but managing stress is an internal job.[11:06] - Busy brain symptoms can be ADHD, anxiety, and racing thoughts when trying to sleep.[14:07] - Until recent years, adult onset ADHD was not at all understood.[17:33] - In The Busy Brain Cure there is a test you can take and bring straight to your doctor. Ask yourself, what is it costing you to not care for yourself?Show Notes:[1:21] - There are many different reasons that people feel guilt when prioritizing self-care.[3:24] - Valorie shares the thoughts running through her mind as she created self-imposed guilt.[5:33] - What happens when we make decisions out of guilt?[7:21] - We are afraid to have hard conversations so we stuff it down and make decisions that we know aren’t right for us.Links and Resources:Redefining Wealth WebsiteThe Institute of Redefining WealthRedefining Wealth AppPatrice Washington on InstagramRyze CoffeeLet Go of the Guilt with Valorie Burton

Wisdom Point #3 - Leaving Could Be Liberation
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
Tuesday Jan 16, 2024
In today's episode, we're exploring why, despite its transformative potential, we often find ourselves running from mindfulness. It's like we're scared to get still and truly let mindfulness happen because who knows what we might discover about ourselves? We're taking a moment to go back to the March 2023 episode, "Come Home to Yourself," where Dr. Thema Bryant shared something so honest and radical with me that it completely opened my eyes. Join me for this Wisdom Point episode to address the fear that holds us back from experiencing true mindfulness.Show Notes:[1:08] - It can be scary to be mindful. What shift might happen when we’re still?[3:39] - It’s important to let this other narrative be known.[4:28] - We hope for things to change because we may view anything else as “quitting.”[5:08] - Equating quitting with failure leads to being stuck. Leaving could mean freedom.[6:06] - It is okay to quit if something doesn’t feel right to you. Ending a season does not mean you are a failure.Links and Resources:Redefining Wealth WebsiteThe Institute of Redefining WealthRedefining Wealth AppPatrice Washington on InstagramAmareCome Home to Yourself with Dr. Thema Bryant

Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Hey, wonderful listeners! In this episode, we're diving headfirst into the transformative world of mindfulness and self-care, exploring how we can infuse those precious everyday minutes with presence. I mean, let's be real – a minute here, 30 seconds there – there's got to be room in our day for a sprinkle of mindfulness. Let’s break down the misconceptions about mindfulness and self-care practices, all while understanding that wealth is way more than just the dollars and cents. This is a crucial piece of the FIT Pillar, and believe me, there's no such thing as being "bad" at mindfulness. It's a skill we can all cultivate and start integrating into your day-to-day lives. So in this episode, I’m sharing four simple ways to practice mindfulness that can also be found in the 30-Day Month of Mindfulness Calendar. You can also find all of this on the new Redefining Wealth app and join the mindfulness discussion with other Purpose-Chasers. From non-judgmental acceptance to mindful breathing, we've got you covered. Because here's the truth – when we're not present, redefining wealth becomes near impossible. So, let's slow down, be aware, and make these mindful moments count.Show Notes:[3:29] - It’s time to double down on your mindfulness practices and solidify this journey.[5:50] - My self care rituals are sacred and non-negotiable.[6:43] - Mindfulness means living in the present moment.[8:12] - When we are not present, it’s impossible to redefine wealth. You cannot recondition the things that do not serve you.[10:24] - When you are in a mindful moment, practice non-judgemental acceptance.[13:01] - Mindfulness is also about acting with awareness.[16:11] - Practice mindful breathing. That alone brings you to awareness.[17:38] - Do you realize how often you rush through a meal?[20:09] - Instead of walking with purpose, walk mindfully.[24:03] - Mindful listening is one of the most impactful practices you can integrate into your life.[27:01] - One simple change could change everything.Links and Resources:Redefining Wealth WebsiteThe Institute of Redefining WealthRedefining Wealth AppPatrice Washington on Instagram30-Day Month of Mindfulness CalendarFuture FitnessHello Fresh
